ABOUT COUNSELLING
I am very experienced-over 20 years- in providing short term counselling ie, 4 to 12 sessions. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy and Solution Focussed counselling are the principal approaches I have found to be effective for most people in my work in the NHS and for BUPA where I specialize in referrals from the business sector who have Employment Assistance Programmes.I can also provide longer term treatment but this does not involve more than 12 sessions.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN IT HELP?
Short term counselling, particularly C.B.T., is now widely accepted in the medical field, and now by the government, to be effective for most emotional problems, mainly anxiety, panic attacks and depression, eating disorders, addiction, relationship and work problems, O.C.D.,career anxiety, et al.
WHAT BENEFITS CAN BE EXPECTED?
The principal benefits of short term focussed counselling are learning to self diagnose problems, understand solutions that are proven to work, and particularly to learn to understand the effect of thinking, beliefs and expectations on mood swings and troublesome behaviours, even those that seem intractable and very long standing. The process is about empowering people by focusing on solutions not victimhood. |
